The Media Library

The Media Library at /media provides a centralised view of all uploaded media files. It is accessible to all logged-in users with the Editor role or higher.

What the Media Library shows

The Media Library lists every file in the media storage directory with its name, file size, upload date, and type. For each file it also shows how many pages reference it and which pages those are. Files are sorted by usage — unused files appear first to make cleanup easy.

Usage tracking

Usage is determined by scanning the content of all active pages for references to the file's download URL. If a file is not referenced by any page, it is flagged as unused.

Replacing a file

Contributors and Admins can replace a file with a new version using the Replace button. The replacement file must have the same extension and belong to the same MIME category (e.g. you can replace a PNG with a JPEG, but not with a PDF). The filename on disk stays the same, so all existing links remain intact.

Difference from the file manager

The file manager (/file) is for uploading, organising, and managing files in folders. The Media Library (/media) is a read-only overview focused on usage analysis and file replacement.
